Solibad Day 2012

Despite informing the team since the start of this year that I will not have time to help out in the organising of this event in Malaysia, I was called - urgently - to do it.

The organisation which had originally agreed to be responsible for all the work had pulled out last minute(a week or so before the event) because apparently, they were too busy. Thanks for that, though, that I've gotten this very valuable opportunity to work with some people who I've always admired.

Last year, we did it with Rexy and Koo. This year, as Rexy had left to coach another country's national team, I thought I'd be all alone, without Rexy's help and support. Thankfully, Rajes, a friend from The Star, being kind as usual, hopped onto our sinking ship. Without Koo, as well, some other ex-national players came to help

It was really great, although I couldn't be there on the day. It was a different experience altogether, different from that of last year. This year, I had more help from more people, and I strived to juggle between the event, univeristy classes, and assignments.

I'm really glad I had the opportunity to still be part of it this year, because it's really huge.  Sixty-five cities from 43 countries participated in the event last year, and this year we had over a hundred. Same day, all around the world, for a good cause. How can I say how blessed I am to be part of this!

Below is the video of the flashmob in KL, held at Wong Choong Hann, Lee Wan Wah and Chan Choong Ming's badminton centre at Kota Damansara.

Watch our ex national players dancing to Badminton Gangnam Style starting around 2:53 of the video!

Thank you Rajes for being such a great help; Choong Hann, Lee Wan Wah, Chan Choong Ming and Joanne Quay for participating in this charity event (thank you Choong Hann for the venue too); Darren and his video crew for filming; Raphael for trusting me again; and last but not least, the organisation that pulled out last minute. ;-) We wouldn't have done it again without all of you. A BIG THANK YOU.

Thank God, for giving me the chance to work with Wong Choong Hann, a player I've always admired since I got into badminton. For the past years, I've been working around him - he played his games, we talked, and I did my part in writing. This year, we worked hand-in-hand, and that's amazing for me - as a fan, especially.

I'm blessed.

Another Solibad event to look forward to: One Night With Stars 2.

P.S
I'll share the global video once it's online, and you can see at how it looked like in more than 100 cities around the world!
