My First TOPIK Test

So, on the 28th of October, which was a Sunday, I sat for my first TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) test. 

Started journey at 7.30am and headed to UKM. Met lots of Korean guys there. I guess they are Koreans who grew up in Malaysia(or another country other than Korea), that's why they'd need to take the test. But they were all conversing very fluently in Korean (they're sitting for the advanced level test). 

The test, divided into four sections in two papers started at 9am and ended at 12.30pm. The moment I arrived at UKM, I was quite fascinated by the scenery. With the greeneries and all, it felt like Taman Negara to me.

At that moment, I had thought if UKM were to offer me a place to do a degree in languages, I might accept it, considering the environment of the campus and the fact that I'm more of a language person than a science person (or in this case, a psychology person).

However, after sitting for the test and roaming around the language centre for a bit, I decided against the first thought. I wouldn't accept any offer to do a degree there. At least not now. The reason, funnily enough, was just because the washrooms were not well maintained. It had the typical school toilet smell, toilets that won't flush, and it's not very clean(compared to the ones in my current uni).

I know it might seem a little strange to some that I'm choosing a university by rating its washrooms, but it's an important aspect to me. Since I spend most of my time at uni, I wouldn't want to have to use dirty - and smelly - toilets all the time. Besides, ever since I left primary school, the toilets at my schools were all nice and clean - the Kamar Seri Flora back in SMKSJ, and the Sunway-Pyramid-like washrooms at SunU.

So yes, washrooms. That's part of my considerations while picking a university to attend. Weirdly enough.

Anyway, about the test, it was a little tougher than I'd expected. The answers were quite similar and I wasn't really sure which to choose. As for the essay question, I've thought of several very interesting ways to write certain essays, and I was looking forward to do the writing part, but the question turned out to be a very simple and common one. That's just aww, too bad - I didn't really manage to make it as interesting as I had planned to. 

Got bored during the test and tried out the OMR pen on several places.

I'm not very confident that I'll be able to get what I aimed for, but it shouldn't be too bad. So meanwhile, I'll just carry on with uni while waiting for the results to be announced in December. Then, we'll see how well I did.
